The partnership between Suffolk and CO Architects brings together deep experience delivering complex healthcare, research and higher education facilities. Working alongside UCSF from the outset, the integrated team will provide early construction and design expertise to help inform key decisions, manage project complexity and align scope, budget and schedule expectations throughout the planning process. Supported by Suffolk Design, Suffolk’s integrated design management team, the project will leverage design management, technical reviews and sustainability expertise to align intent, value and project goals from the earliest stages of development.
“UCSF is a world-class institution for dental education, research and patient care, and we’re excited to help bring this next generation of learning and clinical environment to life,” said Preston Hoopes, General Manager of Northern California at Suffolk. “We’re honored to partner on a project that will expand opportunities for education, research and patient care while drawing on Suffolk’s experience delivering complex healthcare and higher education facilities.”
The project will create new educational, clinical and collaborative spaces that support the university’s mission across dental education, research and patient care while providing learning environments for UCSF’s broader health sciences community. Designed to support collaboration among faculty, researchers and clinicians, the facility will help advance emerging models of interdisciplinary healthcare and prepare the next generation of healthcare professionals.
“This project represents a defining opportunity for CO Architects to build upon our legacy of shaping the nation’s leading academic health and research institutions,” says James Simeo, FAIA, Principal-in-Charge for the project at CO Architects. “It reflects our clients’ confidence in our ability to create transformative environments that inspire learning, accelerate discovery, and advance the future of healthcare. This project will integrate cutting-edge technologies, adaptable learning environments, and spaces that foster collaboration and innovation to establish a new benchmark for academic excellence.”
The award further expands Suffolk’s growing portfolio of higher education and design-build projects throughout California, including the UCSF Parnassus Heights Central Campus Site Improvements project and California Polytechnic State University’s multi-phase student housing expansion program. Suffolk has also delivered transformative projects across the state, including Gilead in Foster City; 78 Haight and 1629 Market Street in San Francisco; One Beverly Hills and the LACCD Pierce College Child Development Academic Facility in Los Angeles; and Union Tower and Park Summit in San Diego.
