NEW YORK, Oct. 19, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Flashforge, a global 3D printing technology company, recently introduced its CJ270 desktop full-color 3D printer, combining Multi Jet Printing (MJP) technology with a built-in planarizer to help maintain consistent layer thickness during printing. The compact system is designed for detailed color reproduction and reliable surface quality across creative and professional applications.
Overview of 3D printing Technologies
3D printing technologies differ in how they produce color and build physical models.
Multicolor fused deposition modeling (FDM) uses thermoplastic filaments to build objects layer by layer. By switching between filaments, these systems can produce models with multiple colors, although subtle gradients and complex surface graphics can be more challenging to reproduce.
Binder jetting applies liquid binding agents to powder materials. Some systems incorporate color during this process, producing detailed visual models that may require additional post-processing.
Digital light processing (DLP) uses projected light to cure liquid photopolymer resin. It can produce fine details, although conventional single-resin systems offer more limited color capabilities.
Material jetting deposits tiny droplets of photopolymer and cures them with ultraviolet light. By combining multiple materials during printing, full-color material jetting systems can reproduce detailed colors, gradients, and visual effects within a single build.

Why Layer Thickness and Consistency Matter
In material jetting, accurately depositing photopolymer droplets is only part of the process. Each layer must also maintain a uniform surface, as small variations can accumulate during printing and affect surface quality and dimensional consistency.
Before UV curing, the planarizer levels the deposited but uncured material layer. This helps prevent small surface variations from building up during printing, especially in models with curved surfaces or complex shapes.
While thinner layers can produce finer details and smoother surfaces, layer thickness alone does not determine printing accuracy. Droplet placement, material properties, UV curing, and mechanical control also influence the final result.

How the Flashforge CJ270 Applies Material Jetting
The CJ270 offers a minimum layer thickness of 7 microns and features a built-in planarizing roller to help maintain consistent layer thickness throughout printing and enhance the detail and surface quality of finished parts.
To reproduce color, the printer uses cyan, magenta, yellow, and black (CMYK), alongside white and transparent materials, enabling more than 10 million possible colors.
Water-soluble support material also simplifies post-processing. Once printing is complete, supports can be removed more easily, including from models with overhangs, recessed areas, and complex shapes.
The printer measures 697 × 410 × 405 mm and is priced at $3,999 in the United States. Its compact design brings full-color material jetting into a format suited to designers, educators, and small businesses working with detailed physical models.

Beyond Color Range
Color range is only one consideration when evaluating a full-color 3D printer. Surface quality, layer consistency, post-processing requirements, and equipment costs can be equally important, particularly for smaller studios and businesses.
The CJ270 brings these considerations into focus, offering a desktop-oriented approach to full-color printing that addresses both visual detail and the practical demands of producing physical models.
